Medical Student Education

The medical education curriculum in otolaryngology at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine consists of a selective clinical clerkship, which can be completed in the second, third, or fourth year of medical school. Our department also provides medical students with a senior elective clerkship, as well as research electives.

Visiting Medical Students

The Department of Otolaryngology offers a fourth-year elective in otolaryngology – head & neck surgery to visiting medical students enrolled in a LCME accredited medical school during the months of July through November.

Transportation to and from The University of Iowa, as well as room and board while here, are the responsibility of the student.  We do not offer grants or scholarships. 

Medical Student Research Scholar Fellowship

DESCRIPTION:  A one-year (July  to June) program focused on research and publication (both peer-reviewed publication and on-line website production) is designed for 3rd year medical students as an interim before their 4th year targeted for those interested in a career in Otolaryngology. Close interaction with faculty in the Otolaryngology Department.  The goal is to both educate the Research Scholar Medical Student and provide them with tools to direct them to a career as an investigator and leader in the field.
